Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Customers rave about the generous portion sizes at Murtha’s; no one leaves hungry after a meal here. The haddock and chips are particular favorites, often praised for their perfect frying and fresh taste. Many locals highlight the friendly and accommodating servers, which is refreshing for a busy spot – service with a smile can truly enhance the dining experience.

Another standout feature is the price point. With meals ranging from £1 to £10, it’s hard to beat the value without sacrificing quality. Diners also often mention the delicious mushy peas and the option to enjoy dishes like sausages or kebabs alongside the classic fish. These elements make Murtha's a go-to spot for anyone in Sunderland craving comfort food.

Most Disliked

As much as locals love Murtha's, there are a few areas that could use improvement. Some customers have noted that the dining area can get quite crowded during peak hours, which might lead to a less comfortable experience for diners looking to enjoy a leisurely meal.

While the majority of reviews praise the service, a few patrons have mentioned that on extremely busy days, servers can struggle to keep up, leading to slightly delayed orders. Although this situation is typical in popular venues, it might test the patience of those who prefer a quicker turnaround. Lastly, despite the variety, a few regulars hope for an expanded menu featuring more seafood options to enhance their meal choices.

Busy fish and chips shop with lovely food, portions and great prices. Usually the servers would be rude in such busy shops but the ladies were kind and patient to all the customers including ourselves. I will come again soon!!

Watched as my Haddock and chips were prepared and fried, to perfection. This was a rare treat and I was in no way disappointed. With my dark malt vinegar enhancing the meal, I ate my fill. Too much, of course, but this was special!!!

Great food, reasonable prices, and the staff was nice. There's a bit of a wait on the fish and chips, but it's well worth it. If your not familiar with Northern accents be ready to ask them to repeat themselves. Overall some great to-go food.
